When raccoons are "grubbing" or looking for grubs, as you see, really can do some damage. Typically they roll up whole chucks of grass or sod while looking for grubs to eat. Sod must be relaid daily to avoid killing the grass.

Here is damage from skunks looking for grubs to eat. Notice that compared to raccoons, skunks only dig up smaller sections or sometimes even just small pockets of sod.
